Penn State All 105: Versatile Chimdy Onoh Looking for Increased Role in Year II

Penn State football’s offensive line is in transition, and that could create an opportunity for Chimdy Onoh.

PSU has lost three of its five regular starters from last year’s line, and all three ended up being selected in this past spring’s NFL Draft.

The head honcho Penn State’s line the past two years, Olu Fashanu, went 11th overall to the Jets.

Fashanu made his mark on Penn State by becoming one of the best offensive tackles in program history. Onoh, also a tackle but can play guard, will be looking to do the same, and he’s the latest subject of All 105, a Nittany Sports Now series profiling each Penn State player.

Height: 6-foot-5

Weight: 323 pounds

Hometown: Baltimore, Maryland

Before Penn State: Onoh was the last player to commit and sign to Penn State’s ‘23 Class, doing so on February’s late signing day. He committed to Penn State over Michigan State, Ole Miss and Rutgers, among other schools. The four-star had a standout career at Baltimore’s Dundalk High School, helping the team to a 26-4 overall record in three seasons. As a senior, Onoh had 46 pancake blocks and allowed just one sack.

Last year: Chimdy Onoh redshirted his first season, playing in two games.

Where he stands: Onoh’s best chance at playing time appears to be at right tackle, where Penn State also has Onoh’s classmate, Anthony Donkoh— who got significant reps in the Peach Bowl as a true freshman— and projected stared Nolan Rucci, who transferred from Wisconsin over the winter. Onoh might not get much playing time this season, but he’ll have his chances to impress Penn State’s coaching staff throughout the weeks.

A quote by Onoh: “When I went there, it pretty much felt like home. I just saw a lot of genuineness from all the coaches and the players, so I really felt like I would fit in there. From all the stuff that the coaches were saying and we talked about, I really believe that they can make me into a great player. I’m excited to be with them.” — Onoh to Blue-White Illustrated on his commitment

A quote about Onoh: “He’s a guy that we think has tremendous upside. He’s got position flexibility, whether it’s guard or tackle. Really enjoyed getting to know him and his family. His mom has done a phenomenal job not just with Chimdy but with all four of her children.” — Penn State HC James Franklin in February 2023 soon after Onoh signed.
