Penn State QB Rocco Becht and tight end Ben Brahmer were both wearing T-shirts late Tuesday morning that nobody had seen before.
The shirts, which were given to the entire team, read: Own the outcome.
Brahmer explained what the shirts meant and who gave them to the team.
WHAT BRAHMER SAID
“Mr. Kraft gave us (the shirts) with a note in our little lockers. So just owning the outcome and understanding that we gotta control what we can control and continue working as hard as we can in practice, and own whatever happens to us on Saturdays,” Brahmer said.
WHO GAVE IT TO THEM?
The interesting part here is who gave the shirt to the team is who gave it to them. That person was athletic director Pat Kraft. For better or worse, whatever happens over the next several years of Penn State football (possibly longer) will be Kraft’s responsibility, and it’s hard to tell what the future holds. Kraft was the one who decided to fire coach James Franklin in the middle of his 12th season last October.
This launched a coaching search that lasted almost two months and ended with the school hiring Campbell, who is 4-4 overall and 1-4 in the Big Ten early in his Penn State tenure.
Although there might not be statistical data to back this up, it’s hard to argue that Kraft isn’t more involved with the football program than the average athletic director is. Kraft is on the sidelines at every game and isn’t shy about showing his emotions when something big happens. He also cares about the players to the point where he got emotional talking about QB Drew Allar’s season-ending injury last year.

The message on the shirt is an accurate one, and all Penn State can control right now is how it performs Saturday at Washington. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 on FS1.
