One of the best to ever to it at Penn State has been surprisingly waived in the middle of his rookie season.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Thursday afternoon that the Washington Commanders have waived Kaytron Allen.
In most cases, it’d be premature to declare Allen a “great” less than a year after the end of his college career.
But he deserves the recognition. Not only is Allen Penn State’s all-time leading rusher, having accomplished that feat while splitting carries with Nicholas Singleton, how he performed during the 2025 season will never be forgotten. Allen had the best statistical season of his career, ending with 1,303 yards and 15 touchdowns, averaging 6.2 yards per carry.
With Penn State’s season that started with national title aspirations went down the drain midway through, Allen could have easily phoned it in as a certain player.
Instead, he only got better as the year went on, eclipsing 100 yards in each of the last six games.
From there, Allen went to the Commanders in the sixth round of this year’s draft.
He made the team out of training camp, then appeared in each of Washington’s first four games, gaining 41 yards on 12 carries.
Allen is only 23, so one would think we’ll here more from him, perhaps even later this season.
Allen’s presence could sure be used on this year’s Penn State team. PSU is 3-2, having lost each of its first two Big Ten games.
Offensively, the team hasn’t been able to run the ball (it averaged 2.2 yards per carry against Northwestern) or throw it (through two Big Ten games).
Penn State’s annual White Out Game is this weekend against USC. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 on NBC.
