Former Penn State running back and NFL veteran Miles Sanders has been charged with driving under the influence and careless driving following a June arrest in Churchill Borough outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, according to court documents.
Police said Sanders, 29, was discovered on June 8 sitting motionless behind the wheel of a silver Lexus. Officers reported finding Sanders slumped over in the driver’s seat and said he appeared to drift in and out of consciousness after they approached the vehicle.
According to the criminal complaint, Sanders appeared lethargic after being awakened and was asked to perform a series of field sobriety tests. Police allege he showed multiple signs of impairment during the walk-and-turn, one-leg stand and horizontal gaze nystagmus tests. Officers also administered a portable breath test, which they said was positive for alcohol.
Court documents state a sealed package of suspected marijuana was recovered from the vehicle. Police also allege Sanders refused to submit to a chemical test.
Sanders’ attorney, Phil DiLucente, released a brief statement following the charges.
“This is a private matter that has not even reached the Preliminary hearing stage and there will be no further comment.”

In 2018, Sanders rushed for 1,274 yards and nine touchdowns, earning All-Big Ten recognition before declaring for the 2019 NFL Draft after his junior season.
Sanders was selected in the second round by the Philadelphia Eagles and later played for the Carolina Panthers. Most recently, he spent time with the Dallas Cowboys during the 2025 season and is currently a free agent.
The charges remain pending as the case proceeds through the Allegheny County court system.
