The early odds are in for Penn State-Minnesota.
Per FanDuel Sportsbook, Penn State will enter Saturday night’s matchup as a 7.5-point home favorite.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise.
Penn State is playing its best football of the year, having won back-to-back Big Ten games over Purdue (home) and Washington (away). This got Penn State back to above .500 after it dropped its first four Big Ten games. Minnesota is in a similar spot with the same 5-4 record (the Gophers are 3-3 in the Big Ten. But the vibes in Minneapolis are different than they are in State College. Eight days ago, the Gophers were on the cusp of the biggest win of the PJ Fleck era (2017-) when they took a three point lead over No. 4 Indiana with 19 seconds left. But Indiana made at 60-yard field goal to send the game to overtime and won from there.
Minnesota had another chance for a signature win this past Saturday against No. 8 UCLA at home.
But Bob Chesney’s Bruins stayed unbeaten with a 34-20 win in Minneapolis.
That loss dropped the Gophers to .500 in conference play, and Penn State has a chance to make Minnesota a losing Big Ten team.
This will be the fourth time Minnesota’s played Penn State in the Fleck era. The first three were when James Franklin was Penn State’s coach, and PSU won two of those games. The most recent meeting was under the lights at Beaver Stadium in 2022, and Penn State won 45-17.
PSU would love a similar result Saturday night.
