Ejani Shakirย a four-star Class of 2023 receiver from Winslow Township High School in Atco, New Jersey, has de-committed from Penn State.
Shakir (6-feet, 185 pounds) committed to Penn State back in May, but announced his de-commitment via Twitter Sunday night.
โFirst, I would like to thank Coach (James) Franklin, ย Coach Stubbs (wide receivers coach Taylor Stubblefield) and staff for taking their time to recruit and host me and my family to an amazing university.โ
Shakir then thanked Penn State fans for โall the love and support throughout my recruitment process.โ
โWith that being said, I will be de-committing from Penn State University.โ
With Shakir de-committed, Penn State is down to 19 commits for its 2023 Class. Shakir is the second receiver to de-commit from Penn State in this recruiting cycled. Yazeed Haynes de-committed in late July and ended up committing to Georgia.
Carmelo Taylor is the only receiver from the class still committed. Shakir is the sixth player to de-commit from Penn Stateโs 2023 class, counting Mathias Barnwell, who de-committed and then re-committed. Ends Tomarrion Parker (undecided) and Neeo Avery (Ole Miss), QB Marcus Stokes (Florida, now un-committed), OL Joshua โDoogieโ Miller (Georgia) and Haynes (Georgia) are the other that have de-committed.
Shakirโs receivers coach, Jason Handy, spoke with Nittany Sports Now after Shakir committed in May. He compared Shakir with past Penn State receivers.
“He has the K.J. Hamler explosiveness,” Handy said. “That catch and run, a runaway from defenders, he has that ability.”
โIf you go back and you look at a lot of plays Jahan Dotson had, he’d go up, and he’d attack the football at the highest point,” Handy said.ย “(Shakir) has that ability to catch the ball in traffic. He’s just a tough kid.”
Itโs not yet clear where Shakir will commit.
