Recruiting: Which in-State Penn State Commits are in Action This Weekend?

It’s high school football season, and here’s a look at Penn State’s PA commits that will be in action this weekend.

Note: Pittsburgh Central Catholic OL Jon Sassic, who committed to Penn State in April, is out with a lower body injury, first reported by Ryan Snyder of On3.

Class of 2027

Aug. 28: Upper St. Clair vs. Mt Lebanon (7:00)

Fans of the WPIAL will appreciate this matchup as one between two of the districts marquee programs. Penn State recruiting fans of any region should appreciate it because of Ryan Robbins. Robbins, a three-star offensive tackle, committed to Penn State in April, the day of the Blue-White Practice.

In doing so, he gave the 2027 Class a 6-foot-7, 280 pounder that fits OL coach Ryan Clanton’s “dog mentality.”

Aug. 29: Archbishop Ryan at Father Judge (Noon)

This 6A matchup will feature Stanley Montgomery a four-star DT who committed to Penn State in April. Montgomery is the No. 6 player in the state from his class per 247Sports, as well as the No. 8 DL and No. 70 overall player.

Nittany Sports Now talked with Montgomery’s defensive coordinator, Lee Marvel IV, not long after his commitment.

“He’s probably going to leave Ryan as maybe the best player ever at Ryan,” Marvel said. “And yeah, he’s also probably the most popular kid in school. And he’s just a great person who works hard and just happens to be six three, three hundred pounds and incredible at football. So it’s a great combination.”

CLASS OF 2028

Aug. 28: McDowell at Mentor (7:00)

This matchup will feature the first player who committed to PSU’s 2028 Class. He’s McDowell’s Deonte Flemings Jr., a 6-foot-3, 190-pound DB who committed on the last day of January.

It remains to be seen how long Flemings stays committed. He has interest from several other major programs.

Penn State Commit on Radar of Notre Dame, Others

“At the end of the day,” he told Steve Wiltfong of Rivals.com earlier this month, “I still want to be a kid and enjoy my recruitment and make the best decision for me and my family.”

Aug. 28: Hopewell vs. Avonworth (7:00)

All eyes will be on James “Bobo” Armstrong, Hopewell’s junior quarterback who committed to Penn State in early July. Armstrong just might be the recruit that launches the Matt Campbell era.
