Penn State added another promising piece to its future in net Monday as Flint Firebirds goaltender Mason Courville announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions on Instagram.
The 16-year-old Palmyra, Pennsylvania native is one of the top young American goaltenders playing in the Ontario Hockey League. Standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 181 pounds, Courville completed an impressive rookie campaign with Flint after being selected 55th overall in the third round of the 2025 OHL Priority Selection.
In 18 games during the 2025-26 season, Courville posted an 8-8-2 record with a 3.06 goals-against average, .893 save percentage and one shutout. His performance earned him Flint’s Rookie of the Year honors, highlighted by becoming the youngest OHL goaltender to record a shutout since December 2007 at just 15 years and 363 days old.
Courville also impressed on the international stage earlier this month while representing the United States at the 2026 Hlinka-Gretzky Cup. He appeared in three games, posting a tournament-best 2.14 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage as Team USA captured the silver medal.

Courville is expected to remain with Flint for at least the next two seasons, allowing him to continue his development before arriving in Hockey Valley. With fellow American OHL goaltender Ryder Fetterolf joining Penn State for the 2026-27 season, Courville projects to begin his collegiate career in 2028, the same year he becomes eligible for the NHL Draft.
