Penn State has struggled to develop wide receivers in recent years.
The last time the corps was an asset was 2022, when Parker Washington was on the team.
Since then, Washington has established himself as a key member of the Jacksonville Jaguars, helping the team to the postseason this past year.
Now, at least one insider believes Washington has established himself as the team’s top receiver. Michael DiRocco, who covers the Jags for ESPN, said Sunday that he believes Washington is WR1 for the Jags at the moment.
Now, this situation could change due to the talent in Jacksonville’s receivers’ room.
Jacksonville has Brian Thomas Jr., who went off for more than 1,200 yards as a rookie in 2024.
It will also have Jakobi Meyers, another former 1,000-yard WR, for a full season after acquiring him from the Las Vegas Raiders around last year’s trade deadline.
But it certainly speaks to how good Washington has been. Last year, he set career highs in yards (847), receptions (58) and touchdowns (5) in the regular season. In the playoffs, Washington was arguably Jacksonville’s best player, going off for 107 yards and a touchdown on seven receptions.
At Penn State, Washington was a key contributor on all three teams he played on.
As a true freshman in 2020, Washington was a bright light in a dark 4-5 season, picking up 489 yards and six touchdowns on 36 catches.
The next year was Washington’s most productive.
He gained 820 yards and scored four touchdowns on 64 catches.
In 2022, Washington missed the team’s last three games due to injury, and ended the year with 611 yards and two touchdowns on 46 catches.
Washington caught a pass in all 32 games he played in at Penn State.
