The kickoff time has been announced for Penn State football’s Big Ten opener against Wisconsin Sept. 26 at Beaver Stadium, and it’s a bizarre one.
The Big Ten announced Monday afternoon that Penn State-Wisconsin will begin at 5 p.m. on Peacock.
We already knew that this wouldn’t be a night game, with the Big Ten publically stating that earlier.
It also wasn’t going to be a 3:30 kick on CBS, with that slot belonging to a ranked matchup between Iowa and Michigan. So that left noon and 3:30 as the top two options. The Big Ten decided on Illinois and Ohio State at noon on Fox, so Penn State will be live at 5.
One of the most famous games in Penn State history also had a bizarre kickoff time.
The 1982 game against Nebraska kicked off at 3:50 on CBS.

It’s hard to say how this Penn State season, which is Matt Campbell’s first as head coach, will go, but there’s a good chance whatever happens against Wisconsin will shape a lot of it. This will be PSU’s first conference game of the Campbell era, and the first real test after a non conference slate consisting of Marshall, Temple and Buffalo.
Wisconsin has started the year 1-1, with a 41-13 loss at Notre Dame Week 1 followed by a 36-9 win over Western Illinois.
For now, Wisconsin has to worry about Eastern Michigan, which it plays at home Saturday, Sept. 19 at 7:30. Penn State will be playing around the same time against Buffalo at 12:30 in Beaver Stadium on the Big Ten Network.
