Carmelo Taylor, a Class of 2023 receiver from Patrick Henry High School in Roanoke, Virginia, has committed to Penn State.
Taylor made the announcement Wednesday afternoon via Instagram.
Taylor chose Penn State over Maryland, South Carolina and West Virginia. He initially planned to commit July 25, but pushed his announcement back to an undetermined date.
Taylor is a two-sport athlete also starring in track.
He won the Virginia Region D Championship in the 200-meter dash.
This is a big boost for Penn State, especially given the timing.
Taylor is the second receiver pledged to Penn State’s class, joining four-star Ejani Shakir, who committed in May. Another receiver, three-star Yazeed Haynes, pledged in June, but de-committed in July and ended up flipping to Georgia.
Five of Penn State’s 2023 commits are from Virginia, putting it just one commit behind Pennsylvania for the state that’s produced the most Penn State pledges from this recruiting cycle.
Alex Birchmeier, Mega Barnwell, Anthony Donkoh and Tony Rojas are also from Virginia and preceded Taylor in committing.
