Transfer Portal: Tracking Which Players Are Exiting Penn State

With a new coach in Matt Campbell and plenty of uncertainty, an exodus was expected for the Penn State football program via the transfer portal.

Although Penn State has kept more key players that many thought it would (check out our recommitment tracker for the full list), plenty of players have still left.

The transfer portal opened Jan. 2, and many Penn State players have already started to declare their intention for what their nexts steps will be and whether or not they will be Nittany Lions.

King Mack was the first Penn State player to enter the portal after it had opened.

This is a big loss.

With Zakee Wheatley and Antoine Belgrave-Shorter getting the starting safety spots at the beginning of the year, people wondered what Mack’s role would be. He ended up becoming one of Penn State’s most valuable defenders, logging 458 snaps, which was the most of any Penn State safety behind Wheatley. He ended the season fourth on Penn State in tackles fourth on Penn State in tackles with 58 (26 solo), adding three pass breakups, an interception and a quarterback hurry.

Not long after Mack’s departure became public, it was reported DB Lamont Payne and OL Eagen Boyer would enter the portal.

Here is an up-to-date tracker for all Penn State players who have been reported to be entering the transfer portal on January 2nd:
