Penn State offensive lineman J’ven Williams is expected to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, according to a report from On3, marking another notable roster move for the Nittany Lions this offseason.
Williams arrived in University Park as one of the most heralded recruits in program history. A five-star prospect by 247Sports, he was rated as the top interior offensive lineman in the 2023 recruiting class. Despite the lofty expectations, Williams saw limited action during his three seasons at Penn State appearing in just 21 total games.
Injuries played a significant role in slowing his development in 2025 participating in only two games against Nevada and FIU seeing limited action. During the 2024 season, Williams logged only 90 offensive snaps and earned a 52.5 overall offensive grade, never fully settling into a consistent role along the offensive line.
A redshirt sophomore, Williams will have at least two years of eligibility remaining at his next stop. There is also the possibility of a medical redshirt, which could grant him a third season depending on his health history and waiver approval.
Williams becomes the 20th Penn State player to enter the transfer portal following the 2025 Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl championship. His departure comes as the Matt Campbell era officially begins and the roster continues to take shape.
The transfer portal opens Friday, January 2, for a two-week window, with Campbell and his staff expected to be aggressive in supplementing the roster as they build on the momentum from Penn State’s strong finish under interim head coach Terry Smith.
