While former four-star running back Quinton Martin Jr. is staying at Penn State, another highly-talented four-star recruit is entering the transfer portal.
Redshirt freshman running back Corey Smith has entered the transfer portal, per ESPN.
A 5-foot-10, 187 pound back from Milwaukee, Smith saw time as Penn State’s RB3 during his young collegiate career.
He rushed for five career spanning 13 yards against Nevada in the season opener, played in six games, and saw his next considerable action during his first-career start in Pinstripe Bowl victory.
Smith ran nine times for 19 yards, far fewer than the 101 yards Martin rushed for in the win against Clemson.
In four games before redshirting in 2024, Smith ran for 152 yards and nearly averaged seven yards per carry.
Smith ran for 95 yards on five carries against Washington in the 2024 White Out and saw time during Penn State’s first round College Football Playoff win over SMU at Beaver Stadium.
He showed promise in limited action as a Nittany Lion, but was behind four-year starters Kaytron Allen and Nicholas Singleton.
Smith has three years of eligibility remaining as Matt Campbell forms his staff and roster after being hired to replace James Franklin in early December.
The transfer portal opened on Friday and remains open for a single 15-day window until January 16.
