Four young Penn State players entered the transfer portal Saturday.
Per multiple reports, safety Antoine Belgrave-Shorter, tight end Matt Henderson, defensive tackle Owen Wafle, and linebacker DaKaari Nelson are departing Penn State.
A redshirt freshman from Jacksonville, Belgrave-Shorter is the most notable player to depart after beginning the season as a starting safety.
The emergence of King Mack (transferring) and Dejuan Lane (staying) minimized Belgrave-Shorter’s role in the second half of the season.
He made 14 tackles in nine games but didn’t play after the Indiana game.
A 6-foot-5 freshman from Powhatan, Virginia, Henderson redshirted, but suited up for five games, including the Pinstripe Bowl against Clemson.
Wafle transferred to Penn State from Michigan before this season, but saw limited playing time during his redshirt freshman year. He made four tackles in nine games during his lone season in State College.
Linebacker DaKaari Nelson was a key piece for Terry Smith on special teams, but only started one game in three seasons (2024). The redshirt sophomore made 10 total tackles and was a former four-star recruit.
The transfer portal opened on January 2 and remains open for a 15-day window until January 16.
