Another Penn State receiver is no longer part of the program but it doesn’t look like he’s going into the transfer portal.

Per a report by Sean Fitz of Blue-White Illustrated, Carmelo Taylor is no longer on Penn State’s roster.

Fitz reported that the reason for Taylor’s departure hasn’t been disclosed yet. But the second-year player from Roanoke, Virginia isn’t expected to enter the transfer portal per the report.

Taylor committed to Penn State in August 2022 ahead of his senior season at Patrick Henry High School.  He didn’t receive any playing time in what looks like it will be his lone season at Penn State, barring something unforeseen. Taylor, who stood at 5-foot-11 and 161 pounds upon coming to Penn State last summer, spoke with Blue-White Illustrated during the program’s second-year player media availability this past February.

He told BWI that, due to a red meat allergy, putting on pounds had been a challenge.

“I mean, I’ve gained a few pounds here and there. It’s hard for me,” Taylor said, while noting that Penn State was working on ways to pack on the pounds with other foods. “I’m starting to eat more, I’m trying to maintain straight A’s and B’s in the classroom, spend more time in the weight room, and taking small steps like that to continue to get better. As I take those baby steps, they eventually turn into bigger steps and more days go into the cycle.”

Taylor is the fourth Penn State receiver to leave the program since the spring transfer portal window opened in mid April. KeAndre Lamber—Smith, Malick Meiga and Malik McClain each entered the portal, with McClain doing so May 2, the day before news of Taylor’s departure broke.
