The Penn State men’s basketball program got word today of their first player of this offseason with plans on being elsewhere next season.

Melih Tunca, a 6′-5″ shooting guard from Istanbul, Turkey, has decided to enter the transfer portal.

Tunca’s agent, Tolga Beritan, reported this to DraftExpress.

Tunca, as a freshman this past season, averaged 7.8 points, 2.4 assists and 2.0 rebounds in 22.8 minutes played per game.

He started in 12 games this year with his best game of the season taking place in Philadelphia against LaSalle on November 15, 2025 where he scored a season-high 20 points on a near-perfect 8-of-9 shooting, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line in the 83-69 win at the Basketball on Broad: Autumn Invitational.

As the season went on, though, Tunca became more of a rotational player.

He ended the season shooting 45% (83-185) from the field and only 31% (20-64) from deep.

Tunca came into State College with a sharpshooter’s reputation who excelled overseas playing for Turk Telekom in the Turkish Basketball Super League and then playing well in the FIBA U20 EuroBasket Tournament last summer.

For the 2026 season, the NCAA Division I men’s basketball transfer portal opens for a 15-day window immediately following the national championship game. The 2026 men’s portal opens on Tuesday, April 7 and closes on April 21.
