Kayden Mingo and Mason Blackwood were among the 176 boys nominated from the East. The final rosters will be announced at a later date as the game is scheduled for April 1 at the Barclay’s Center in New York.
Mingo and Blackwood are a part of the No. 22 recruiting class in 247Sports rankings, the highest-ranked class in Penn State basketball’s history. Mingo — the highest-rated prospect to ever sign with the Nittany Lions — is the No. 42 overall recruit. Blackwood is ranked 103rd in the nation, while 7-foot center Justin Houser is the No. 221 overall prospect on 247Sports.
โThey had a lot of other great schools recruiting them,โ head coach Mike Rhoades said in November, โbut I also think they see the energy, the enthusiasm and the support we have in this program right now to move it forward.โ
โAnd those are three guys, three cornerstones, that are going to help us move this [program] forward.โ
Mingo is a 6-foot-2 point guard from Glen Head, New York. He currently plays for Long Island Lutheran, participating in the Nike EYBL Scholastic.
Blackwood is a 6-foot-7 small forward from New Hampton, New Hampshire. He plays for New Hampton Prep School, where he led the Huskies to the NEPSAC AAA finals, Final Four of the National Prep Championship and a 30-10 overall record his junior year.
Houser is a three-star prospect from Malvern, Pennsylvania. He plays for Phelps School and was a core piece of the Lions’ runner-up status in the state championship game his junior season.
