Penn State added another piece to its 2027 recruiting class, securing a commitment from New Jersey defensive lineman Carter Blattner per Hayes Fawcett of On3.
Blattner, a three-star prospect from Northern Highlands High School in Allendale, New Jersey, brings intriguing size at 6’6″ and 260 pounds. Penn State offered him in mid-February, and the Nittany Lions quickly became one of the most appealing programs in his recruitment.
Blattner picked Penn State over a recruitment that featured nearly 20 scholarship offers. He had official visits scheduled to Virginia Tech, Wisconsin and Kentucky, but those trips are no longer expected to happen. His official visit to Penn State remains set for June 5-7.
Blattner has emerged as one of the top defensive prospects in New Jersey. He is considered a consensus Top 10 player in the state and has produced strong numbers over two seasons at Northern Highlands. During that span, Blattner recorded 95 total tackles, seven sacks and three forced fumbles.
His commitment gives Penn State five pledges in its 2027 class, and notably, with the first four are defensive players. Blattner joins cornerbacks Semajay Robinson, Ka’ron Ceaser and Zachary Gleason in the group.
The Nittany Lions received their first offensive commitment in wide receiver Landon Blum, the top prospect in the Class of 2027 in the state of Iowa.
According to Rivals Team Rankings, Penn State’s 2027 class is currently ranked No. 31 nationally as the Nittany Lions continue to build early momentum on the recruiting trail.
