The potential is there for Penn State LB Keon Wylie.
PSU’s associate head coach and defensive recruiting coordinator Terry Smith knows how to pick talent.
Smith had a big hand in bringing Wylie to Penn State, as he does with most, if not all, of PSU’s defensive recruits.
PSU’s 2022 recruiting class featured players such as Abdul Carter, KJ Winston and Dani Dennis-Sutton, all three of which are projected to start for Penn State Week 1 this season and could well be high-round NFL Draft choices come next spring.
With all that talent coming in three winters ago, Smith said on signing day 2022 that Wylie could be the best of all. He’s the latest subject of All 105, a Nittany Sports Now series profiling each Penn State player.

Before Penn State: Keon Wylie was a three-year letterman at Imhotep Charter Institute. During his high school career, Wylie was a three-year team captain and two-time team MVP. He was also selected to participate in the 2022 All-American Bowl and was a three-time all-state selection (two times a 4A selection, once a 5A selection)
2022: Wylie appeared in three games for Penn State. Out of those three games his most notable appearance was in the Rose Bowl vs. No. 8 Utah. Wylie recorded a total of one solo tackle and one assisted, while also credited with half of a sack.
Wylie was rewarded for his performance by being named Penn State’s Developmental Squad Defensive Player of the Year along with Jake Wilson.
Last year: Wylie appeared in all 13 games, spending almost equal time on defense and special teams. He ended the year with 17 tackles (13 solo), three sacks, five tackles for loss and a quarterback hurry.
Where he stands: Wylie’s success in 2024 will depend on how he can recover from an injury he suffered in spring ball, reported to be “serious.”
A quote by Keon Wylie: “It’s just like [moving on] from Pop Warner. You eventually go to high school. Then you go to the next level. It was fun while it lasted. But now I gotta go, try to provide for my family at the next level, and get to the next level after that.” — Wylie after his commitment to Penn State via Dan Sostek of PennLive.
A quote about Wylie: “He’s a football player. He’s a mature kid for his age. Very high football IQ. He’s a dog. He becomes a different animal when he’s on the field. He’s aggressive, he’s smart and he has a knack for the ball.” — Wylie’s high school coach, Cyril Woodland, to 247Sports
