The post-week 1 rankings are in, and Penn State has moved up.
In the Coaches Poll, Penn State came into the year ranked No. 17 and is now No. 16.
In the AP Poll, Penn State came in No. 18 and is now No. 16.
This comes after PSU’s impressive 45-0 season-opening win over Marshall, as well as some lackluster performances from other Big Ten foes.
The biggest dropoff in the Coaches Poll came from Michigan, who started the year ranked No. 16. But after what most feel should have been an embarrassing home loss to Western Michigan, UM is clinging to its top 25 spot at No. 24 in the Coaches Poll and dropped out of the AP Poll entirely, receiving 69 votes.

So aside from Michigan and Penn State, how does the rest of the Big Ten look in this week’s rankings? Well, the conference didn’t have long to enjoy having the top two teams in the country. Although Ohio State kept its place at No. 1, Oregon fell from No. 2 to No. 6 in both polls following a closer-than-expected 34-27 win over Boise State at home Saturday. Defending national champs Indiana moved into the top five, going from No. 6 to No. 5 in both polls, and USC stayed steady at No. 14 in both. Washington stayed at No. 19 in the Coaches Poll and moved from No. 17 to No. 19 in the AP, and finally, Iowa moved up slightly from No. 22 to No. 21 in both polls.
Illinois received 45 votes in the Coaches Poll. Nebraska received 11, and UCLA received four.

Regardless of ranking, the main thing on Penn State’s mind is Temple.
The two teams will face off Saturday at noon in Philadelphia on ESPN2.
