Penn State coach Matt Campbell gave injury updates on multiple players in his weekly press conference late Tuesday morning.

One of them was Lavar Arrington II.

LAVAR ARRINGTON II

Arrington’s father revealed late last week that Arrington was dealing with a knee injury, and that was further confirmed Saturday when he was seen on crutches.

“LaVar got injured, maybe that second-to-last week at camp,” Campbell said. “Kind of didn’t know where he was. We ended up going (with) a cleanup surgery. I think it’ll probably put him (out) four to six weeks, somewhere in that time frame. We’ll be anxious to see where he is after we get through a little bit longer of a recovery process.”

OWEN ALICIENE

Aliciene, Penn State’s second-string left tackle, was unavailable Saturday.

“Owen kind of got dinged up towards the end of camp,” Campbell said. “He did practice last week. We just didn’t feel like he was at full strength to be ready to go back on the field. I would say questionable for this week, but he did practice today, which is a great sign.”

ALIJAH CARNELL, ARMSTRONG NNODIM

Like Aliciene, the two defensive tackles got hurt during camp and thus weren’t available for the opener.

“Both of those guys got some practice last week,” Campbell said. “Just didn’t feel like they were at full strength. Both guys did practice today. And I would say probably same thing [for them], questionable. We would love to have those guys back ready to go for us this week.”

ALEX TATSCH, GABE BURKLE

Campbell said ahead of the Marshall game that Tatsch, a second-year linebacker, and Burkle, and tight end who came over from Iowa State, were expected to be back by Week 2.

Nothing has changed on that front.

“Both guys, I thought, were really close to playing,” Campbell said. “Just didn’t feel like it was the right decision to do that, just because they needed more contact collision in practice.

“But both guys will certainly be available this week. It’ll be big for us to have both of those guys back on the football field.”
