Penn State is a finalist along with Pitt, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.
Adams is a 6-foot-2, 185-pounder from Green Run High School in Virginia Beach.
This past season, he had 1,030 yards and 16 touchdowns receiving, averaging 25 yards per catch. 247Sports has Adams as the No. 100 overall player in the country from his class and the No. 19 receiver. He visited Penn State for one of its Junior Day events Jan. 14. Adams told 247 that Penn State “really showed me how much they want me.”
“Everything that was planned, they made sure I was the first to do it or know about it,” Adams said.
Adams is also a fan of Penn State’s offense.
“They run a decision-making scheme that, as a receiver, you have to be able to run very good routes to get open,” he told 247. “I think it fits me great, honestly.”
Penn State’s had recent success recruiting in Virginia. Penn State’s Class of 2023 signed six players from the state. Two of them: four-star OL Alex Birchmeier (Ashburn) and four-star LB Tony Rojas (Fairfax) are among Penn State’s top three ‘23 signees according to 247Sports’ composite ratings. Penn State helped its future prospects in recruiting players from Virginia last month when it hired Marques Hagans, who coached at the University of Virginia for 10 seasons, as its new receivers coach.
Penn State’s lone receiver signed to the 2023 class, Carmelo Taylor, is from Patrick Henry High School in Roanoke, Virginia.
To land Adams, Penn State will have to fight off an in-state rival in Pitt, a Virginia school in Virginia Tech and a tri-state area school in West Virginia.
Penn State currently has two ‘24 players committed. They are four-star OL Cooper Cousins (McDowell High School) and four-star LB Anthony Speca (Pittsburgh Central Catholic). Both of those players are from Pennsylvania, and neither are skill position players. Keylen Adams would be the first commit from outside the commonwealth and the first skill player in Penn State’s Class of 2024.
