Now that former Penn State quarterback Drew Allar was drafted 76th overall in the third round by the Pittsburgh Steelers, he now will be teammates with former Ohio State QB Will Howard.
The two played each other once in their collegiate careers.
That was Nov. 2, 2024 when Ohio State visited Beaver Stadium with both teams ranked in the top 5.
Howard completed 16 of 24 passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns, with one interception.
Allar completed 12 of 20 passes for 146 yards, with no touchdowns and one interception.
The Buckeyes came away with a huge 20-13 win.
Now, Allar and Howard are both Steelers, and at this point in the process, there are still a lot of moving parts and unanswered questions.
Will Aaron Rodgers come back for his 22nd NFL season?
Will the Steelers trade Mason Rudolph this offseason?
How high is Pittsburgh truly on Howard, who was drafted last year in the 6th round with the 185th pick of the 2025 NFL Draft?
Either way, it’s all in front of Allar to come in and compete and to possibly be the next franchise quarterback of the six-time Super Bowl champions.
The process of solidifying QB1 may come down to the former Buckeye and Nittany Lion if Rodgers retires and Rudolph is traded.
Even if it’s not for the QB1 position, the battle to backup a 42-year-old could come down to Allar and Howard.
After all, Allar impressed the Steelers enough for them to draft him in the third round.
Allar exhibits the perfect NFL quarterback prototype with his 6′-5,” 235 lb. frame.
It’s true when they say, “Competition brings out the best in everyone.”
