CLEVELAND– It turned out Penn State wrestling great
Jason Nolf wasn’t done winning championships.
Nolf won three national titles at PSU and is now the Real American Freestyle Middleweight Champion.
He got the belt by taking care of
Evan Wick 11-1 in Cleveland Saturday night at RAF 12.
Nolf made a statement in the first period, scoring an early point, then getting a four-point takedown to push the lead to 5-0. It only got better from there, and Nolf ended the match before the three periods were up.
He’s now 5-1 overall in RAF, which started one year ago in Cleveland, where Nolf lost to Wick on the inaugural card.
In freestyle before RAF, Nolf won Gold at the 2022 World Cup in Coralville, Iowa.
He also won two Grand Prix Gold Medals and took silver in 2022.
Additionally, Nolf took first at the 2020 Pan American Championships in Ottawa and is also a two-time U.S. National Champion and 2019 Bronze Medalist.
One of the highlights of Nolf’s career took place in what ended up being one of his last matches before retirement.
In April 2024, at none other than the Bryce Jordan Center in Happy Valley, Nolf upset the most decorated U.S. wrestler in history, Jordan Burroughs.
That win put Nolf two wins away from qualifying for the Paris Olympics at 74 kg, but he fell to Kyle Dake in two straight matches, coming up just short.
Although he’s only 30 and could conceivably make a go for a 2028 Olympic bid, Nolf told Nittany Sports Now after the bout that he has no plans to return to the world freestyle circuit.
