An offseason is always long, but for Penn State fans, this one is longer than usual.
It isn’t often that Penn State is waiting seven months to see what its new coach can do, but that’s the case this year.
Matt Campbell is just the fourth person to take the reigns full-time since 1966, and in roughly two weeks, we’ll finally start to see what his tenure might bring.
15 days before the first game of his tenure, scheduled for Sept. 5 against Marshall at Beaver Stadium, Campbell went on the Pat McAfee show.
Campbell told McAfee and company that, yes, he’s eager for the games to begin, but mostly because he wants people to see the team PSU has put together.
“I’m excited for the opportunity but I’m more excited to give this fan base and this university a team that can represent the history of this place the right way,” Campbell said.
These echo words Campbell told NSN exclusively this past June.
In an exclusive interview with NSN, Campbell said he feels he and his staff have “one of the great opportunities of all time to continue to unify and align this.”
“I don’t know if there’s a greater tradition, both on and off the field of excellence, than what Penn State football is,” Campbell said. “I feel like we’ve made great headway, and at the end of the day, we continue to sprint to work every day to represent this program and its history the right way.”
The Campbell era is upon us.
