Penn State Basketball: Wisconsin Handles Penn State Inside Rec Hall

Tonight inside the historic Rec Hall the (9-9) Penn State men’s basketball team played host to (13-5) Wisconsin.

It was the Badgers heading back to Madison as the victors, beating the Nittany Lions 98-71.

Freshman, Kayden Mingo, got the Nittany Lions on the board first with a nifty drive to the hoop and a jump shot to quickly go up 4-0 (18:16).

The Badgers then battled back and took the lead after a three-point make from John Blackwell at (15:59) to make the score 7-4.

At the first media timeout (12:39) it was the Badgers over the Nittany Lions, 12-11, behind eight points from Blackwell.

Josh Reed was leading Penn State with five points.

Wisconsin was playing faster than Penn State and pushing the ball up the court and beating the Nittany Lions in transition.

At the 9:00 minute mark of the first half, it was Wisconsin running and stretching their lead to 23-13.

Nothing was dropping for Penn State and for Wisconsin they were shooting a solid 47% from the field.

Reed then got the Nittany Lions back on track after nailing a three at the (8:30) mark to make the score 25-16.

Next possession for Wisconsin, Braedon Carrington returned the favor of making a three of his own (8:16).

At this point in the game, the Badgers had 11 points off of four PSU turnovers (4:42).

With (4:42) left in the first half, the Badgers were handling the Nittany Lions with a score of 35-17.

Wisconsin was really starting to turn up the heat and scoring at will from the inside and outside. Carrington was leading all scorers with 12 points and Blackwell had 10.

Penn State could not find a rhythm and were only shooting 23% from the field (2:49), and the Badgers were in control 42-17.

The score at halftime was Badgers 50 Nittany Lions 22.

Carrington was leading all scorers with 17 and Blackwell followed with 13.

Reed was leading the Blue & White with nine points.

To start the second half, it was more of the same. Penn State didn’t look confident and Wisconsin was still in their rhythm.

At the (16:00) mark of the second half, Wisconsin was outrebounding Penn State 33-20 and giving this Badgers’ team second opportunities is not a recipe of success.

With (15:06) left in the game, it was Wisconsin over Penn State 60-30.

Wisconsin’s, Nolan Winter, was coming on strong for the Badgers scoring 7 of his 11 points in the first ten minutes of the second half, and at the (11:17) media timeout it was Wisconsin 70 PSU 42.

PSU’s Josh Reed and Freddie Dilione each had seven points in the second half with (11:17) to play and Reed was leading Penn State with 16 points for the game.

Wisconsin’s Carrington and Blackwell had 17 points apiece, Winter had 13 and Nick Boyd had tallied 11 points with (8:02) to play.

The Badgers’ bench was outscoring Penn State’s bench 30-18 and had 38 points in the paint to Penn State’s 12 points (6:00).

With (5:00) to play it was Wisconsin, easily, cruising to a victory with a score of 88-56.

FINAL: Wisconsin 98  Penn State 71
