It should come to no one’s surprise that the biggest recruiting weekend for Penn State football is held during the White Out.
Quarterback Drew Allar spoke at the 2025 Big Ten Media Days about the “White Out” as an event.
“I mean there’s nothing like it if you’re a college sports fan in general and especially football,” he said. “Like the White Out, no matter if you’re a fan of Penn State or not, is something you need to go to in my opinion.
“I went to it as a recruit, sat in the stands. It’s crazy sitting in the stands. But it’s even crazier being on the field for that.”
During media availability this week, running back Nick Singleton commented that the White Out was the difference-maker during his recruitment.
Singleton described how loud it was that night, “You know, they couldn’t hear nothing. My friend came too. I couldn’t hear him talk.”
Originally, I reported that the “White Out” will have “nearly 150 recruits,” but Penn State general manager Andy Frank has indicated this will be the biggest recruiting event Penn State Football ever hosted.
“This will be the biggest we’ve ever had,” Frank told On3. “150 has typically been our max for the biggest game of the year, and I don’t believe we’ve ever gone past 165 in previous years. We’ll be upwards of about 200 or so this week. Maybe a little above that.”
One of Penn State’s coveted pieces I had a chance to speak with is a Class of 2027 commit in offensive lineman Layton Von Brandt from Appoquinimink (Middletown, Delaware).
Von Brandt is rated as a five-star offensive tackle by the 247Sports Composite, rated as the No. 5 offensive tackle in the country by 247Sports Composite and is seen as a key cog in that class being the glue that keeps an already elite group together.
Here is what Von Brandt had to say about being invited to this year’s White Out
“Every year it’s one of the biggest regular season stages in all of college football. The crowd, the energy, and atmosphere is unlike anything I’ve seen . This year with it being versus Oregon it’s the game of the year with two Top 4 teams in the country with national title implications. It’s must-see TV and I can’t wait to be right there and experience it in person. There’s not a recruit in the country that doesn’t want to be at this game and I am blessed to have the opportunity to be there.”
No. 3 Penn State kicks off against No. 6 Oregon at 7:30 PM (Eastern), broadcast on NBC and streaming available on Peacock.
