Penn State football’s summer of discontent in recruiting continued Friday afternoon when Khary Adams announced his commitment to Notre Dame.
This is the third time in as many days that a player Penn State wanted committed elsewhere.
On Wednesday, in-state OL Grayson McKeogh (LaSalle College High School) announced his commitment to Notre Dame.
The next day, blue-chip DE Luke Wafle announced that he picked USC.
Now, Adams is looking to move to South Bend. Adams, a standout at Loyola Blakefield High School in Townson, Maryland, visited Penn State six times, including officially in mid-May.
But the No. 3 CB in the country and No. 36 overall player per 247Sports picked elsewhere.
THE HEARTACHE MAY CONTINUE
Unfortunately for PSU fans, the recruiting misses and subsequent heartache may continue. The top-ranked player in Pennsylvania, Joey O’Brien, is projected to commit elsewhere. That news is bad enough for Penn State, but worse yet is that he’s expected to commit to Notre Dame per both of 247’s Crystal Ball picks. We’ll find out soon enough, since O’Brien is also announcing his decision Friday. He’s down to Clemson, Oregon, Penn State and Notre Dame.
THE GOOD NEWS
The good news for PSU and its fans is that the 2026 Class is still in good shape overall. The group is ranked seventh per 247Sports, and considering it ranked 18th in 2025, that’s a pretty solid improvement.
It also must be noted that, thanks to the transfer portal, players often don’t stay where they initially committed. So, yes, there is hope that Adams, O’Brien or whoever else could one day be Nittany Lions.
