Penn State might have a shot at the No. 1 prospect in the 2026 wrestling recruiting class, Bo Bassett, after all.
Bassett announced via Instagram Sunday evening that he has de-committed from Iowa.
“After a lot of prayer and talking with my family,” Bassett wrote, “I’ve decided to decommit from the University of Iowa. This wasn’t easy, but I believe it’s not the right fit for me as a wrestler, a person or for my faith journey. I’m grateful for the opportunity, and I’ll never speak a bad word about their program. This is about finding the place God wants me to be.”
Penn State’s program talks plenty about faith, and even wrestlers from other schools have attributed this to the team’s absurd amount of success.
This doesn’t mean Bassett is picking Penn State but is worth noting.
Bassett went onto write that this is a “huge decision in my life, and it has to be the right one.”
“I would like to thank all of the Iowa fans who have supported me,” he wrote. You have been amazing and I am grateful for the support you’ve showed me. I have opened up my recruitment.”
Bassett ended his post with a bible verse.
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, “plans to prosper and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” — Jeremiah 29:11.
Bassett committed to Iowa in February over, among many others, Oklahoma State, Penn State and Virginia Tech.
The Penn State wrestling 2026 class already has the No. 3 overall recruit in Jayden James. It certainly wouldn’t hate to add the No. 1 recruit.
