Penn State wrestling recruiting target Bo Bassett, the No. 1 wrestler from his class, has made his decision.
It was down to Penn State, Oklahoma State, Iowa and Virginia Tech.
Bassett chose Iowa, he announced on FloWrestling after pinning a guy in 18 seconds.
Although this recruiting loss stings, itโs hardly reason for Penn State wrestling to panic. After all, a program thatโs won 11 of the last 13 nationally championships isnโt exactly searching for a โmissing link.โ At the same time, itโs hard to argue that any program, even one that goes beyond being a dynasty, couldnโt use a guy like Bassett.
Stine: The Word โDynastyโ Doesnโt do Penn State Wrestling Justice
Not only is Bassett perhaps the best of the best in his class, heโs a PA guy, too.
A LOCAL SUPERSTAR
Bassett attends Bishop McCourt High School which, yes, indeed, is in Pennsylvania.
The McCourt star has never lost a high school match (itโs doubtful he lost many before high school, either). As a freshman in 2022-23, he went 18-0. The next season, he went 56-0 and won the state championship at 139. This season hasnโt been too bad, either. Bassett is 37-0 with 22 tech falls, 13 falls and two forfeits. To put that into perspective, none of Bassettโs 36 matches has gone the distance.
For Bassett, all of his options were good ones.
โAfter an amazing Recruiting Process, lots of great conversations, miles, weekends, texts & prayers, I have my mind made up & this week I will be making my commitment live on Flo Wrestling,โ Bassett posted to X (formerly Twitter) Sunday. โWhen I Narrowed it down to the final 7, I feel I couldnโt make a bad choice.โ
He soon narrowed his list down to four and ended up going with the Brands Brothers and Iowa.
NOT TO PANIC

This is no reason for Penn State wrestling or its fans to panic. Another generational talent is coming later this year. His name is Marcus Blaze.
The current Penn State team takes won Michigan Friday at 6 on the Big Ten Network.
