University Park— Penn State played the nine last nine and a half minutes of its 35-6 demolition of Washington at Beaver Stadium in White Out conditions Saturday night without one of its best players, and coach James Franklin was asked about it afterward.
RB Nicholas Singleton, who has rushed for 498 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 6.1 yards per carry, didn’t touch the ball for the last nine-plus minutes and wasn’t seen on the sideline.
In coach James Franklin’s postgame presser, he was asked about Singleton’s status. Anybody who has ever listened to Franklin talk about injuries is probably has a good idea of what he said— not much— but he did seem to confirm that Singleton is hurt.
WHAT FRANKLIN SAID
“As you guys know, I don’t get into those types of things,” James Franklin said. “You’ll find out when you go out to practice. I don’t have a whole lot more. As you guys know, I don’t kind of get into those types of things. You’ll find out when you come out to practice (Wednesday). I don’t have a whole lot more. Typically, I get in (to the locker room) after this, shower. Everybody’s gone, shower. (Head trainer) Andy Mutnan is waiting for me. He goes through how we got out of the game, and what the injuries were. Typically we don’t have a whole lot of information until the next morning. But as you can imagine, I don’t usually get into sharing that information with you guys, anyway, at this stage.”
PENN STATE NEEDS SINGLETON
Penn State has played one game without Singleton, and it didn’t go well for the running game. Against UCLA Oct. 5, the team rushed for 85 yards on and averaged 2.8 yards per carry. Singleton is also a threat in the passing game (19 receptions, 204 yards, four touchdowns). Penn State might not need Singleton to beat 1-8 Purdue next week but it will need him for the team to make noise in the College Football Playoff.
Penn State is scheduled to take on Purdue at 3:30 next Saturday in West Lafayette.
