‘He Woke up and Chose Violence’: Former NFL All-Pro Shows Penn State RB Nicholas Singleton Love

Nicholas Singleton / Penn State Athletics

Penn State RB Nicholas Singleton has a great game this past Saturday, continuing what’s been a great season.

Again Illinois under the Beaver Stadium lights, Singleton rushed for 94 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries.

But his most famous play of the game didn’t come on any of those 16 runs.

Instead, it was on one of his two catches for 25 yards. On a 3rd and 7 from the Illinois 33, Penn State QB Drew Allar dropped back to pass. While he was dropping back, Singleton punished an Illinois defender.

He then caught the ball and trucked another defender on his way to getting the first down.

This sequence didn’t go unnoticed, with Penn State football’s X (formerly Twitter) account posting a video of it Tuesday.

On Wednesday morning, it got some national love.

“My man Nicholas Singleton from Penn State,” former all-pro center Jeff Saturday said on ESPN’s “Get Up” Monday morning. “He woke up and chose violence.”

He then elaborated.

“I want you to watch this right here,” he said. “Watch him on the… boom! He ain’t done, he ain’t done! Boom! Give it to him!”

While Saturday was talking, the rest of the panelists were ooohing and ahhhing.

Saturday then continued to compliment Singleton.

“I like the nastiness,” he said. “When you wake up and give him that chin music, God, I love you.”

Through four games, Singleton’s rushed for 408 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 7.2 yards per carry. He’s been effective in the passing game, catching six balls for 82 yards and two scores, and, as we saw Saturday night, is also doing things that don’t appear on the box score.

Singleton and No. 7 Penn State are back at Beaver Stadium Saturday against UCLA. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
