A former Penn State CB who’s responsible for two of the most iconic plays in program history is calling it a career.
On Sunday night, Grant Haley announced his retirement from professional football via Instagram.
After his college career ended following the 2017 season, Haley started his pro football journey with the New York Football Giants as an un-drafted free agent.
He played with the Giants for two seasons, then spent 2020 with the Saints before moving on to the Los Angeles Rams. At the end of his first season with the Rams, he helped the team win a Super Bowl. Haley was placed on IR in mid-October 2022, and never again played for LA.
But Haley’s best known to Penn State fans for his time in college, particularly returning Marcus Allen’s blocked kick for the winning score of Penn State’s landmark upset over No. 2 Ohio State at Beaver Stadium.
After that mammoth win, Penn State won its last five regular-season games and the Big Ten East, earning it a spot in the Big Ten Championship Game against Wisconsin.
Haley came up big again in that game, again combining with Allen to make magic. The two stopped Wisconsin RB Corey Clement on a 4th and 1 near the Penn State red zone to seal a 38-31 come-from-behind win in which Penn State rallied from a 28-7 deficit.

He’s remained a part of the Penn State family since his last college game. Last season, Haley was the honorary captain for Penn State’s White Out Game against Iowa. He ended his Instagram post by writing that he “hopes that my journey gives others that belief that the only limits in life are those that we set for ourselves! All glory to God.”
