Penn State football has its first Class of 2027 commitment.
Late Friday morning, Kemon Spell announced his commitment to Penn State.

Spell, a 5-foot-9, 185-pounder is a WPIAL RB from McKeesport, which is the alma mater of legendary PSU LB and current trustee Brandon Short.
Spell led McKeesport with 37 carries for 517 yards (14.1 yards per carry) last season, starting as a freshman on an 11-2 Tigers squad that played eventual PIAA Class-4A champs Aliquippa close in the playoffs.
He was most recently on campus for the “Lasch Bash,” which is Penn State’s biggest recruiting weekend of the summer. Penn State offered him this past May, and he also had offers from Akron, Florida State, Marshall, Michigan, Michigan State, Pitt, UNLV, West Virginia and Wisconsin. He’s the fifth player to commit to Penn State in the past six days, with two each coming from the 2025 and ‘26 classes.
Spell talked with Tyler Calvaruso of Lions247 prior to his commitment.
“I love Penn State,” Spell said. “I love the environment. They show a lot of love. It’s a nice area and they are a great school. They have great coaches.”
There’s still a bunch of time for the Class of 2027 to shape up, but there’s no reason to think Penn State is done recruiting the WPIAL. Here are some more top prospects from Western PA courtesy of our sister outlet, Pittsburgh Sports Now.
