A Penn State legacy recruit has committed to another school.
Early Monday afternoon, Hayes Fawcett of On3Sports reported that Michael Carroll, a 6-foot-6, 310-pound OL from Central Bucks East in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, had committed to Alabama fresh off his official visit.

Per 247Sports’ composite ratings, Carroll is the No. 9 interior offensive lineman from the Class of 2025 and the No. 5 overall player in Pennsylvania from the class. Penn State had been on him for a while, having offered him late last June. Along with Alabama and Penn State, the coveted Carroll had offers from schools such as Arkansas, Boston College, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Maryland, Miami of Ohio, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Rutgers, South Carolina, Syracuse, Texas, Texas A&M, UCLA, USC, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
Carroll’s father, also Michael, played linebacker for Joe Paterno in the mid-1990s. Carroll’s brother, Liam, is a Class of 2027 ATH from Central Bucks East. Last month, Penn State became the first DI school to offer him. With Signing Day still being almost a half-year away and the transfer portal being so prevalent, there’s always a chance Michael Carroll does indeed end up at Penn State one day. But for now, the plan is for him to play at Alabama.
Despite— for now— losing out on Carroll, Penn State fans got some good recruiting news Monday.
Daryus Dixson, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound corner from California’s famous Mater Dei High School announced via X (formerly Twitter) right around noon Eastern time Monday that he had committed to PSU.
Dixson is a four-star recruit who is the 90th-ranked player nationally and 10th-ranked CB from his class per 247Sports’ composite ratings.
Carroll had an official visit to PSU scheduled for the weekend of June 14, but that’s presumably off now.
