Essandako is in the transfer portal after two seasons in Philly, the first one he had to redshirt due to NCAA eligibility rules.
Before college, Essandoko, a native of Paris, France, came to America at 14 and played at the Winston-Salem Christian School for his last two seasons. As a senior, he averaged 15 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks. He also played with Team Curry on the UAA circuit. In what will likely be his lone season at St. Joe’s he averaged more than eight points, five rebounds and a block per game. He helped St. Joe’s to the A10 Tournament semifinal, a run highlighted by an upset of top-seeded Richmond which ultimately knocked the Spiders out of the NCAA Tournament.
Essandoko only averaged six points and three rebounds in four A10 Tournament games, but he put up better numbers in St. Joe’s lone NIT game.
He scored 14 points and added eight boards in a 75-72 overtime loss to Seton Hall.
Along with Penn State, Essandoko has been in contact with Arizona State, Boston College, Butler, Cincinnati, Creighton, Florida, Georgetown, Kansas, Kansas State, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Missouri, NC State, Pitt, Providence, Seton Halls, St. John’s, TCU, Texas, Texas Tech, Utah, VCU, Villanova, and Xavier.
Penn State has a big from Xavier committed out of the transfer portal. Kachi Nzeh announced his commitment to Penn State on social media last Saturday.
Nzeh, a former three-star recruit, entered the transfer portal on March 21, three days after the portal officially opened for business.
