The regular season for both the men and women Penn State basketball teams begin on Monday, November 2 in a doubleheader inside the Bryce Jordan Center.
The Lady Lions will take on the Cleveland State Vikings at 5:00 P.M. and will be followed by the Penn State men taking on the Canisius Golden Griffins at 7:30 P.M.
Coach Tanisha Wright’s Lady Lions are coming off an 84-47 drumming over UPJ in their only exhibition game of the season that took place inside Rec Hall on October 27.
The men are 2-0 in exhibition play after defeating St. Bonaventure in Buffalo 68-65 on October 17 and then defeating Drexel in Philadelphia 68-57 on October 26.
Wright begins her first season as head coach of the Lady Lions and has had to rebuild her roster from zero players in the offseason. She now has a squad of 11 players who are determined to help bring back Lady Lion Basketball to its prominence.
They are playing a Cleveland State squad that finished the 2025-2026 season with an impressive 26-10 overall record and a Horizon League Conference record of 13-7. They finished their season last year playing in the Women’s NIT Tournament Great 8 Round.
The Vikings are led by head coach Bob Dunn who enters his first year at the helm in Cleveland State and who last year worked as an assistant coach at Penn State during the 2025–26 season.
The Penn State men’s team is taking on a Canisius squad out of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). The Golden Griffins finished the 2025-2026 season with an overall record of 10-21 and a MAAC record of 5-15.
They are led by head coach Jim Christian who is in his third season with the Golden Griffins.
The Nittany Lions are hoping to make some noise in the Big Ten this year behind fourth-year head coach Mike Rhoades.
Rhoades has a new-look roster of 14 players where 11 of them are transfers. He focused this offseason on getting bigger, older, stronger and with better shooting.
They finished the 2025-2026 season with an overall record of 12-20 and a Big Ten record of 3-17.
