The early odds are out for Penn State-Washington, which is set to kickoff at 3:30 ET from Seattle Saturday, Nov. 7.
Washington is a slight favorite at -1.5.
It must be noted that the home team is thought to be given three points, so by that metric, Penn State is the favorite.
But in any case, this is set to be a tough football game. This year hasn’t gone the way either school would have wanted. In the preseason rankings, Penn State was No. 18 and Washington was just ahead at No. 17. But Penn State lost its first four Big Ten games, and Washington lost its first three. Both teams are in good form, with Penn State getting its first win in a commanding 31-17 effort against Purdue this past weekend, and Washington beating Purdue and Nebraska on the road in its last two games.
Washington will also have home field advantage, which is useful in most cases, but especially so given Penn State will have to travel across the country.
Penn State has had a mixed history with cross country trips since the Big Ten expanded before the 2024 season.
It got an epic overtime win over USC in the Coliseum in 2024. But the next year, Penn State returned to LA, and it didn’t go as well. Penn State was stunned by UCLA, which marked the beginning of the end of the James Franklin era.
Penn State was upset again by Northwestern the next week, which led to Franklin’s firing.
Now, Matt Campbell is the coach, and if Penn State beats Washington to improve to 5-4, vibes will be high as November rolls on.
