Penn State
beat Purdue Saturday despite missing its top two receivers and, coach
Matt Campbell updated the status of Chase Sowell and Koby Howard at his Tuesday presser.
Sowell (510 yards, three touchdowns, 34 receptions) is Penn State’s leading receiver statistically, and Howard (344 yards, two touchdowns, 12 receptions in just three games) is the team’s most explosive.
So Penn State would love to have each of them back for Washington.
WHAT CAMPBELL SAID
I think “probable” is the word I would use for Chase. I think he’s in a really good spot. I think Koby is still probably in the “questionable” category. We’ll have to see where he’s at. It’s the same thing I’ve said the last couple weeks. When he’s ready, we’re gonna try to make sure he’s on the field, but we’re gonna make sure he’s ready to go.”
ACTION JACKSON
Due largely to Sowell and Howard being out, true freshman
Amarion Jackson played the most snaps of his college career by a wide margin.
Jackson had played 55 total snaps through Penn State’s first seven games per
Pro Football Focus.
Campbell feels Jackson’s production went beyond pass catching, and cited Jackson’s blocking on Penn State’s two biggest runs of the evening, a 48-yarder by
Cam Wallace and a 42-yarder by
Carson Hansen.
“You look at the two big runs,” Campbell said. “His blocks are at the forefront. Push-crack on the safety. They’re both coming off his big blocks. I’d start there. I thought he did a great job with his opportunities. He made the most of them. That’s a little bit of the theme of last Saturday. Guys got their opportunity, and they made the most of it. I’ve always said that is college football. It’s our job to prepare them for their opportunities when they come their way.”
