INDIANAPOLIS— Penn State has three defensive backs in Indianapolis for this week’s NFL Combine.
One of them won’t be competing in the combine’s workouts due to injury.
DB Johnny Dixon told reporters, including Nittany Sports Now, that he’ll be out for the physical part of the combine due to a hip injury sustained at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama earlier this month.
Dixon played at Penn State for three seasons after spending two at the University of South Carolina.
He was part of a solid group of cornerbacks that included Kalen King and Daequan Hardy, who are both in Indy, and Joey Porter Jr., whose now a Pittsburgh Steeler.
Dixon was amongst the defensive MVP’s this season as announced at the annual team banquet earlier this month.
The senior cornerback started all 10 games for Penn State during the 2023 regular season amassing 21 tackles, 16 of which were solo. He added an interception, four tackles for loss and three sacks.
Nittany Sports Now was there to cover this year’s Senior Bowl and caught up with Dixon. Dixon talked about some of the things he feels he does well.
“I have really good feet,” Dixon said. “I can run with anybody. I can make good plays on the ball. I’m physical. I’m the whole package.”
Dixon’s three sacks were the most in the country by a defensive back.
Penn State has work to do to replace Dixon, King and Hardy next season. The team addressed that issue over the winter by landing transfers A.J. Harris (Georgia) and Jalen Kimber (Florida). Penn State also has Zion Tracy entering his second season and Cam Miller entering his third.
Dixon still partook in pre-draft interviews during the Combine process.
