With three-star QB Ethan Grunkemeyer announcing his commitment early Saturday afternoon, PSU football has 14 players committed in its 2024 recruiting class thus far. The class ranks No. 7 in 247Sports’ Composite Rankings.
Here’s a breakdown of the 14. This will go in order from where they’re ranked according to 247Sports Composite.
QUINTON MARTIN
It was big recruiting news when Martin, a high-end four-star ATH from Belle Vernon High School near Pittsburgh, announced his commitment to PSU football Friday, April 12.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder is the No. 1 player in Pennsylvania. He’s also the No. 3 athlete in the country and the No. 30 overall player according to 247Sports Composite.
His position in college will be discussed. He plays running back and defensive back for Belle Vernon High School near Pittsburgh.
With Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen in the fold at least for the next two years, he could play safety, and versatility can make him a special teams contributor. Martin’s a bigger-frame athlete who could add weight when he gets to Penn State.
DONOVAN HARBOUR
Harbour, a four-star Class of 2024 offensive lineman from Catholic Memorial High School in Waukesha, Wisconsin, announced his commitment to PSU football Tuesday, April 18, a big recruiting get for Penn State.
Harbour, who’s listed by 247Sports at 6-foot-3 and 310 pounds, is the No. 1 player from Wisconsin in his class and the No. 8 interior offensive lineman in the country according to 247’s composite ratings.
He released his top seven New Year’s Eve, which also featured Florida, Ohio State, Tennessee, Oregon, Michigan and Wisconsin in addition to Penn State. Over the past few days leading up to his commitment, Penn State emerged as the strong favorite, with four “crystal ball” projections from 247 pegging Harbour to Penn State in the wake of the Blue-White Game April 15.
Harbour was the 10th player to commit to Penn State’s ‘24 class and the third lineman, joining Caleb Brewer and Cooper Cousins. This follows an excellent ‘23 class for OL coach Phil Trautwein, who landed Penn State’s top two recruits, J’ven Williams and Alex Birchmeier.
COOPER COUSINS
Cousins, a 6-foot-5, 305-pound hoss from McDowell High School in PA, was the first player to commit to the PSU football ‘24 recruiting class. He did so in January 2022. For almost a year, he was the only one. Cousins, a four-star, is Penn State’s third-highest rated commit behind Martin and Harbour, following a solid ‘23 OL class headed by high-end four-stars Williams and Birchmeier.
JON MITCHELL
Mitchell committed April fools day, and he’s no joke.
Mitchell is the No. 16 cornerback and No. 176 player nationally as well as the No. 28 overall player in Florida according to 247Sports’ Composite.
COREY SMITH
Smith committed April 28. He’s a four-star back from Catholic Memorial High School in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
GARRETT SEXTON
The 2024 3-star offensive tackle was scheduled to make his college decision May 1, as deciding between Penn State, Oklahoma, Iowa and Minnesota.
He ended up moving that decision up and committed to Penn State April 24.
ANTHONY SPECA
Speca was the second player to commit to Penn State’s ‘24 Class, doing so in January almost a year after Cousins did.
Ironically, 247’s scouting report on Speca, written by National Recruiting Analyst Brian Dohn, compared Speca to current Penn State linebacker Tyler Elsdon.
”Highly productive player averages more than 12 tackles a game as a junior,” Dohn wrote. “Physically advanced and possesses strength and mentality to get on field quickly in college. Muscular build throughout frame. Plays middle linebacker in Central Catholic’s 4-3 scheme. Excels as a downhill player in shooting gaps and disrupting plays. Playing style build as a run stopper who is physical between the tackles.”
Central Catholic also once housed legendary NFL quarterback Dan Marino. Marino, of course, played at Pitt. Speca is looking to carve out a college football legacy at Penn State.
KENNETH WOSELEY
Woseley, a four-star corner from Philly’s Imhotep Charter, committed to Penn State in early March.
NSN’s Mike Farrell, the “Godfather of Recruiting,” had this to say about him.
“Imhotep has been good to Penn State with a few key guys like (Shaka) Toney and (Keon) Wylie in the last many cycles and Woseley keeps it going. He’s thin and needs a lot of filling out, but he’s long for a 5-11 corner and he has hops. He’s also fluid, so that bodes well as he adds weight because he won’t lose that flexibility. Any win over Big Ten schools is a good one, and this is a nice get over Michigan, but also over Nebraska as Matt Rhule will try hard to hit his old stomping grounds in Philly. I have him as a top 300 four-star kid.”
KARI JACKSON
Jackson was Penn State’s second linebacker commit of the ‘24 class, doing so in late February.
The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder’s had an interesting high school career geography-wise. He started at West Bloomfield High School in Michigan, then transferred to Florida’s famous IMG Academy for his sophomore season. After that, he returned to West Bloomfield for his junior year and dominated. Jackson ended this past season with 103 tackles (65 solo), 26 tackles for loss and three sacks, playing in just seven games. Earlier in February, Jackson announced that Penn State was in his top seven, along with Cincinnati, Central Florida, Maryland, Missouri, Stanford and Wisconsin. Penn State offered him in May 2021, and he visited the school three times before committing. He first visited the month after Penn State offered him, then transferred to IMG, making it difficult for him to make the trip to State College. After returning to West Bloomfield, Jackson returned to Penn State, attending the team’s White Out game against Minnesota last October. His most recent visit to Penn State was in January for one of the school’s junior day events.
ETHAN GRUNKEMEYER
Ethan Grunkemeyer, a three-star Class of 2024 QB from Olentangy High School in Lewis Center, Ohio, committed Saturday, May 20. The 6-foot-2.5, 190-pounder is the first QB to commit in Penn State’s 2024 Class. Grunkemeyer is the No. 37 quarterback nationally, the No. 20 player in Ohio and the No. 575 overall player according to 247Sports Composite rankings.
CALEB BREWER
On Blue-White Saturday, Class of 2024 three-star offensive lineman Brewer from Wyomissing High School near Reading, Pennsylvania, announced his commitment to Penn State.
Brewer was teammates with prized 2023 signee Williams at Wyomissing and is one of the fastest rising recruits in Pennsylvania. He chose Penn State over Boston College, Cincinnati, Duke and Illinois, among others.
The 6-foot-5, 285-pound Brewer is the No. 17 player in Pennsylvania, the No. 58 athlete nationally and the No. 602 player overall, according to 247Sports’ Composite rankings. Brewer plays both offensive tackle and defensive tackle for Wyomissing.
ANTOINE BELGRAVE-SHORTER
Belgrave-Shorter announced his commitment Monday, April 10. The 6-foot, 180-pounder is the No. 56 cornerback in the country and the No. 90 overall recruit in Florida according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. He recorded 33 tackles (22 solo), six pass breakups and three interceptions last season as Mandarin High School made the Florida 5A State playoffs.
EAGAN BOYER
Boyer, a three-star from William Amos Hough High School in Cornelius, North Carolina, announced his commitment to Penn State April 25.
Boyer is a 6-foot-8, 265-pounder who Penn State offered in January.
He also had offers from schools such as Auburn, Clemson, Duke, Florida, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
LUKE REYNOLDS
Reynolds (‘24) is a three-star tight end from Cheshire Academy in Connecticut. Penn State offered him the week before he committed. Among other schools to offer Reynolds were Boston College, Duke, Kentucky, Louisville, Pitt, Stanford, Syracuse, Temple, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Wake Forest.
