Class of 2024 4-Star CB Jon Mitchell Commits To Penn State

On Saturday, Class of 2024 four-star cornerback Jon Mitchell from Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, Florida, committed to Penn State while he was making an unofficial visit.

Mitchell (6-foot-0, 177-pounds) chose Penn State over Florida State, Miami and Mississippi State among other schools

Mitchell was considered a top target by cornerbacks coach Terry Smith.

He’s is the No. 17 cornerback and No. 197 player nationally and the No. 30 overall player in Florida according to 247Sports’ Composite Rankings. On3 has Mitchell as the number nine player in Florida, the number eight cornerback and No. 63 player nationally.

Mitchell has experience playing in man and in zone coverage. Has the size to fight through blocks and make tackles in run support. Mitchell has a brother, Nick, who plays linebacker at Mississippi State, and another brother Kris who plays at FIU.

Mitchell described an at-home feel, Smith’s ability to develop cornerbacks, and the facilities as major factors in his commitment, talking with Hayes Fawcett of On3.

“It feels like home to me,” Mitchell said.

“The way he (Smith) develops his cornerbacks to be elite stands out. Also, I just fell in love with the facilities and all the coaches are genuine. It’s a family I want to be a part of.”

Mitchell went even further in his praise of Smith.

“He is such a great guy in general and will talk football, he said. “But then he will communicate with you and have talks about life. And he is one of the best (cornerback) coaches in college football.”

Jon Mitchell joins Kenneth Woseley from Imhotep Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the defensive back room in Penn State’s 2024 recruiting class.
