Penn State Gets Commitment From Lafayette Transfer Leo O’Boyle

Lafayette transfer Leo O’Boyle has committed to Penn State, he announced via Instagram Tuesday night.

The 6-foot-7 O’Boyle averaged 11.6 points per game for Lafayette this past season and shot 40.7% from 3.

A Scranton native, O’Boyle played four seasons at Lafayette, never averaging double figures until this past campaign. He’ll be a graduate transfer using his last year of eligibility to play at Penn State.

At Scranton Prep, O’Boyle helped his team to three district championships and also quarterbacked the football team to a pair of district titles. He was an all-state performer in both basketball and football and could be a popular player amongst Penn State fans because of his local roots.

O’Boyle is this cycle’s third Penn State transfer with ties to Pennsylvania. Zach Hicks played at Temple for two seasons and Puff Johnson, who transferred from North Carolina, is from the Moon Township in the Pittsburgh area.

Penn State and its new coach, Mike Rhoades, have landed six transfers thus far. A-10 Player of the Year Ace Baldwin and Nick Kern came with Rhoades from VCU. 6-foot-8 sharpshooter Zach Hicks came from Temple. Pittsburgh-area native Puff Johnson returned to PA after three seasons at North Carolina, and, most recently, 6-foot-11 Qudus Wahab came in from Georgetown. Penn State has nine scholarship players in total that aren’t either out of eligibility from last season or in the transfer portal.

PSU basketball has reached out to reigning Division II Player of the Year RJ Sunahara, Sunahara told Nittany Sports Now via Twitter direct message Tuesday morning.

Sunahara (6-foot-8) averaged 18.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists for Nova Southeastern University last season and not only earned Player of the Year but led the team to a 36-0 record and national championship as well.
