It’s the dominant storyline of Penn State basketball’s offseason: Will Micah Shrewsberry stay or will he go?
It’s a question that fans feel they’ve been asking forever, and one that brings about anxiety for a group of supports afraid of their favorite program falling back into mediocrity or worse after a magical season.
The good news is that reports indicate we’ll know where Shrewsberry will be coaching next season soon.

Of course, this could be looked at by Penn State fans as bad news, too.
The common thought is that Shrewsberry is either going to return to Penn State or leave for Notre Dame.
There are reasons for him to choose either.
If Shrewsberry stays at Penn State, he’ll be even more beloved in Happy Valley than he already has become. He’ll also have a chance to be, far and away, the greatest coach ever at Penn State, which is a Power Six school, and that’s not a chance a lot of people have. If Shrewsberry goes to Notre Dame, he’ll likely be successful. But he’ll have a harder time surpassing Digger Phelps and Mike Brey in South Bend than he would surpassing Bruce Parkhill in University Park.
Then again, Notre Dame is Notre Dame.
The “Golden Domers” don’t have the same basketball tradition as their legendary football program, but Notre Dame’s hoops history is nothing to sneeze at. In Mike Brey’s 23 seasons, the program went to the NCAA Tournament 14 times, making three Sweet 16s and two Elite Eights.
By comparison, Penn State’s made the tournament 10 times in its history. The program has made just one Sweet 16, that coming way back in 2001.
Notre Dame also comes from America’s premier basketball state, a state Micah Shrewsberry happens to be from.
So Penn State fans, what do you think is going to happen? Will Shrewsberry stay or will he go? Vote here.
