On Wednesday, Penn State point guard Dallion Johnson entered the transfer portal, according to Verbal Commits.
Johnson (6-foot-3, 180 pounds} was a three-star recruit coming out of Phillips Academy Andover in Andover, Massachusetts, in the Class of 2020. He was the 2020 Massachusetts Gatorade Boys Player of the Year.
Johnson was originally recruited by Pat Chambers but wound up playing for one year under former interim head coach Jim Ferry as the Chambers controversy occurred right before the season and played the past two seasons under current head coach Micah Shrewsberry.
Johnson played in 23 games last season and averaged 2.0 points, 0.7 rebounds, and 0.7 assists in 8.7 minutes a game. His season high came against Loyola (MD} when he scored eight points in a 90-65 win at home on Nov. 10.
Johnson has his best season as a true sophomore, where he made 14 starts in 29 games and averaged 3.7 points and 1.2 rebounds per game.
However, with the additions of transfer guards Camren Wynter and Andrew Funk, and the emergence of freshman Kanye Cleary as the first guard off the bench, Johnson saw his playing time dwindle, and he collected 14 DNP-coach’s decisions.
Johnson will have two years of eligibility remaining wherever he lands.
