Penn State’s Wheatley, Wormley Discuss Learning From Ohio State Loss

Penn State looked better in its 44-31 loss to Ohio State this past Saturday than it did in its Oct. 15 embarrassment at Michigan.

But, as defensive back Joey Porter Jr. told reporters after the Ohio State game, “a loss is a loss.”

“I would say the (locker room) vibes are kind of the same…” Porter said. “So we just have to take that in and get better tomorrow, and that’s what we want to do. There’s really nothing much to it.”

At Penn State, Sunday is the day for reviewing Saturday and correcting what went wrong, and Monday is the day of rest, so the team spent this past Sunday looking over the Ohio State game.

For safety Zakee Wheatley, the Ohio State game is now in the past.

“Just between Saturday afternoon and Sunday,” Wheatley told reporters via Zoom Tuesday, “coming in Sunday and watching film, watching the corrections, going over everything, watching over the game, seeing what we did good and what we did bad and just leaving it at that.”

For offensive guard Sal Wormley, its important to look at the positives that came out of Saturday.

Penn State led the No. 2 team in the country with less than 10 minutes to play in the fourth quarter, and that counts for something.

“After every loss, you have to take the time and, of course, look at the mistakes you’ve made, as a team or as an individual,” Wormley said. “But also look at the positives of what happened, and see how you can accomplish something if certain things just change a little bit.”

Penn State has four games left: At Indiana Nov. 5, at home against Maryland Nov. 12, at Rutgers Nov. 19 and against Michigan State on Senior Day at Beaver Stadium Nov. 26.

With 10 wins and a New Year’s Six bowl game still in play, Penn State has a lot to accomplish, and its November stretch Saturday afternoon in Bloomington.
