Penn State wrestling isn’t slowing down anytime soon, and the 2027 recruiting class is another piece of evidence.
PSU doesn’t have the top-ranked wrestler committed to its class.
That’s Melvin Miller, and he’s committed to Virginia Tech.
But Penn State does have No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 pound for pound wrestlers per MatScouts. The No. 2 wrestler is Grey Burnett, who committed to Penn State in December. Burnett is listed at 126 pounds, which is the same class as Landon Sidun, who has been committed to Penn State since October. At No. 5 is Clinton Shepherd, who is listed at 150 pounds and committed in December.
Burnett competed at Perrysburg High School in Ohio, which Penn State fans should recognize since it’s the alma mater of the program’s current starter at 133 pounds, Marcus Blaze. Through three seasons, Burnett is 143-8, having won a state championship each year.
Sidun “only” has two state championships, but that’s hardly his fault. Sidun wasn’t able to compete in the postseason during his sophomore year due to an injury. When Sidun’s been healthy, he’s been awesome, and he’ll go into his senior season with a 124-3 overall record with 89 bonus point wins and two state titles.
Shepherd comes from the state of Indiana, where he won his first state title for Crown Point High School in March. He projects to compete at either 157 or 165 pounds in college.
Burnett is expected to compete at 125 or 133, and Sidun is expected to compete at 125.
The future is bright for Penn State wrestling, indeed.
