Penn State football has received at least one commitment from its second recruiting official visit weekend of the summer.
Late Sunday morning, Elijah Guertin, a four-star edge from Bishop Hendrickson high school in Rhode Island, announced that he has committed to Penn State while finishing up his OV.
247Sports has Guertin as the No. 1 player in Rhode Island from his class, as well as the No. 18 edge and No. 190 overall player.
Penn State offered Guertin April 2nd while he was on an unofficial visit.
“Getting this offer means so much because it’s simply a blessing from God himself,” he told Blue-White Illustrated after picking up the offer. “I would say it’s one of my top schools, for sure,” Guertin said following his previous visit.”
“I really liked how they were all very genuine. They not only looked at me as someone who plays football but as a person as well.”
He also had offers from schools such as Arkansas, Boston College, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, North Carolina, Pitt, Rutgers, Syracuse, Tennessee, UCLA, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Wake Forest, Wisconsin.
He took official visits to North Carolina (May 29-31) and Florida (June 4-6). He had an official scheduled to Tennessee for the weekend of June 19, but that is presumably off the table now.
Guertin is the second edge prospect to commit to Penn State football’s 2027 recruiting class, joining Carter Blattner, a three-star from New Jersey. Penn State has 21 total players committed, and the class is ranked No. 19 per 247Sports.
