One of the top players in Penn State football’s 2027 recruiting class has flipped his commitment to an SEC school.
It had been speculated for weeks that Jamir Dean, a four-star WR from Tennessee’s Alcoa High School, could de-commit from Penn State in favor of Georgia, and late Monday morning, that became reality.
Dean had been committed to Penn State since May 1. Five days after his commitment, Georgia offered. Dean took his official visit to Georgia on the last weekend of May, then took an OV to Penn State the following weekend.
Now, like Kemon Spell, a five-star RB who had been committed to Penn State but now is in Georgia’s class, Dean plans to be a Bulldog.
Dean explained his decision in an interview with Rivals.com.
“Just going down to Georgia and seeing everything with my own eyes, and then going back this week and spending time with the players and coaches, I just knew I would fit in perfectly,” Dean told Rivals.
So what type of commit did Georgia get and Penn State lose?
Here’s how Andrew Ivins of 247Sports describes Dean.
-“Bouncy, big-play receiver that can win on the inside or outside.
-Owns by far one of the more unique multi-sport profiles in the class as he’s a state-qualifying decathlete that has also scored over 1,000 career points on the hardwood.
-Attacks leverage with his releases before mixing gears to create separation.
-Can consistently snap open at the intermediate level, but top-end speed makes him a legitimate deep threat as he gets behind defenders and reels in the long ball.
-Shifty after the catch with his agility and not afraid of contact.
-Will eventually need to add mass to a slender frame that’s believed to be just over 6-foot-1, but has a chance to be an immediate contributor at the Power Four level with his skills.
-Projects as a potential impact player on Saturdays.”
Penn State now has 20 players committed to its 2027 recruiting class, and four-star Landon Blum (Woodbine, Iowa) is the lone receiver committed.
